Fat Lip

Probably one of the coolest things I’ve seen lately..

There are more versions of it online if you do a search for “Marching band fat lip.”  The other version is during the day, video is a little worse.

Throwback

I’m still toying with different themes for this, as you can see.  I’d like to pick one that is visually appealing, with a good font and possibly some rounded corners.  I don’t like how this one lists all of my pages and their sub-pages on the right margin.  Those pages are an aspect of the site I’d like to work on anyways.  This isn’t the first time I’ve used this theme.  When I selected it, it loaded the current header, an image I uploaded on September 26-06.  It’s a view facing southwest from the 6th floor of my teachers college building.  The water there is the mouth of the Niagara River and Lake Erie.  It really took me back.

Another concern of mine is the width the theme allows for photos.  I crop all of the photos I post to be 400 px wide, usually 400 px tall unless the image doesn’t allow for that.  This theme is at least 4oo px wide, but not much more.  This would only be a problem with certain youtube videos I embed.

I’m currently in both a hockey pool and a basketball pool.  I enjoy watching basketball, but I rarely sit down to watch an entire game and I never follow the standings.  Hopefully this pool will make me more interested in the NBA.  I’m currently in first place in my Hockey pool with the following players:

1 Getzlaf, R (ANA) (F)
2 Thornton, J (SJ) (F)
3 Sedin, H (VAN) (F)
4 St. Louis, M (TB) (F)
5 Zetterberg, H (DET) (F)
6 Vanek, T (BUF) (F)
7 Khabibulin, N (EDM) (G)
8 Koivu, M (MIN) (F)
9 Gagne, S (PHI) (F)
10 Roy, D (BUF) (F)
11 Hemsky, A (EDM) (F)
12 Bryzgalov, I (PHO) (G)
13 Antropov, N (ATL) (F)
14 Smyth, R (LA) (F)

That is the order that I picked them in.  So far, my Sabres are not performing very well and Gagne is injured.  Smyth is proving to be an excellent last pick.  I was a little ticked to see that Hemsky was a healthy scratch for tonight’s game.  At least I got points for Khabibulin’s win.  I will post my basketball picks when I find an easy way to copy and paste them.

High school sports are different here than in southern Ontario.  The teams I coach play two other teams, 4 times each, for our regular season. We have to travel either 2 or 3 hours to play these schools, and the games are played during the day so we can make it home in a decent time.  My first season, jr. boys’ volleyball, will come to an end on Thursday.  All three schools travel to one host school (this time, Kenora), and all of the teams play off for the championship.  The second and third place teams play off in the morning (jr and sr girls/boys basketball and volleyball) and the winners of those games play the first place teams in the afternoon.  It’s quite a scene, those championship games.  Picture a high school gymnasium with all of the athletes and cheerleaders from 3 different schools cheering on championship games.  It’s pretty amazing.  Playoff games, and sports in general, never drew the same crowds back in Niagara.  It’s a good experience for everyone, athletes and coaches.  Win and it’s great, lose, and it’s an awfully long ride home.

Starship

I’ve come to realize that if I’m going to continue writing on this site, I need to continue having fun with it.  I guess my relative lack of writing lately is reflective of a general change in myself. A change from a time in my life where I did very little with myself to a time(now) where I tend to keep fairly busy.

I’ve been going to the gym as often as possible.  Sometimes, that means once a week. It at least hasn’t been any less than that for the last couple of months.  This isn’t going to get me in to beach shape for New Years, but it at least keeps the blood flowing.  I’ve changed my cardio routine from strictly using the elliptical to a stairclimber/rowing machine combo.  I find the stairclimber to be much more challenging than the elliptical.  I judge this by the fact that I sweat a lot more on it.  Using the rowing machine is sort of an homage to the Niagara region, one of the Rowing capitals of Canada.  That being said, I’ve never set foot in a rowing shell.  Is it called a shell or a scull?  I mean the fast skinny boats. I’m not even going to google that right now.

The volleyball season is almost over and the basketball season is almost starting. Coaching continues to be a rewarding aspect of the teaching career.  The championship playoff day is next Thursday the 12th, I will let you know how it goes.

I think the site needs a new look.  Luckily, I can change the entire look of this page with the click of a button.  I’ll be trying a few out and see how I like them.

The fishing season is pretty much over.  I might go once more this year before packing it in until late february/ march for the hardwater monsters.
